Although the German Grand Prix brought huge improvements for both, Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona so far, Qualifying turned out to be a difficult session today. After he managed to lower his Friday’s best by 0.379 seconds in FP3 this morning, Petrucci missed out on a direct Q2 entry by just 0.221 seconds. Yet, he was ready to give everything in Q1, but a was blocked on the line and a yellow flag stopped him from showing his potential, therefore the Italian ended up in P9.
In the meantime, Lecuona made some steps forward as well throughout day two at the Sachsenring circuit. While trying to further lower his lap time in Q1, he went down and missed the chance to move up the order. Hence, he’ll start the eighth round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship season next to his teammate in row seven of the grid when the red lights go off at 14:00 local time tomorrow.

“It was not an easy Qualifying. I found some traffic when I was improving my lap time. On top of that, my setup didn’t feel perfect, as I felt some strange vibrations and therefore, it wasn’t possible to improve the lap time. I’m pretty confident regarding my race pace, although we start really far. I still think, that we can have a good race tomorrow.”

“Overall, it was a difficult day. In the morning, I went wide in turn one as I did a mistake on the brakes and I had a small crash. I struggle quite a lot. Finally, in FP4 we tried something on the base in order to improve for the race. This was a success and we went a few tenths quicker while I was going alone. So, this is positive for tomorrow. In Qualifying I tried to push at my maximum. On my fast lap, I did a small mistake again and crashed in turn one. Luckily, I’m fine. Q1 was pretty tight, I just lost half a second to the front. Tomorrow in the race, we will see what we can do, but I’m convinced we can fight for the top 10.”
