Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Iker Lecuona experienced an up and down Saturday at the Red Bull Ring. The Spanish youngster improved on his Friday’s best by 1.34 seconds in FP3 this morning. Two minor crashes didn’t slow him down throughout the day and he managed to repeat his FP3 time in Qualifying one, which made him end up ninth and means he’ll start tomorrow’s 28 laps race from the seventh row of the grid.

At the same time Danilo Petrucci went quicker as well. He lowered his best lap time from day one by one second, but struggled to further improve in Qualifying. He ended up in P12 in Q1, just 0.324 seconds behind his teammate. The Italian will have to make up ground when the red lights turn off for the second half of the 2021 season at 14:00 local time.

“It was a difficult day. We have been struggling a lot in the morning, tried different bases on the bike. I finally feel better, I managed to improve a lot in the final minutes of FP3, but in the warmer afternoon I was struggling again and I don’t really understand why. Seems we had some issues on the bike, but it’s going to be ok. The race is tomorrow. We will check the weather and see what happens. But I know if the bike is working well and the team is pushing like usual, we have a chance for a good result."
