The sun was out at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo for the final Free Practice sessions and Qualifying today. Throughout the day, Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Iker Lecuona made some steps in the right direction, improving in nearly each session. In a super tight Qualifying one, he landed fifth and missed out on a Q2 ticket by just 0.206 seconds. Yet, the local hero will start his home race tomorrow from row five.
At the same time, Danilo Petrucci moved forward as well. The Italian, who will bring his 10 years MotoGP career to an end this weekend lowered his fastest lap time from Friday by more than one second in Q1. He concluded Qualifying only 0.051 seconds behind his teammate in sixth position and is ready to commence his farewell race, the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana tomorrow at 14:00 local time from the sixth row of the grid.

"We were struggling throughout the day and worked very hard to find a good base. At the same time, we are very close. In FP3 I finished just about five tenths behind the top and was in P14, so it’s super tight. In Q1, I was pushing a lot, I did some mistakes, but I’m happy because we are there, we have the speed. For sure tomorrow we have to give a bit more, but we are ready to fight."

"It was a very tight Qualifying and everybody is so close to each other. I didn’t do the best lap, but I was pushing a lot, but was still missing some hundredths. I still think we can do a decent race tomorrow. I feel good with the bike and with a fine start I believe there is the chance for us to score some points."
